Brent Taylor grew up in Batesville, MS where he entered funeral service while working with Wells Funeral Home. He earned his degree in Mortuary Science from Northwest Mississippi Community College, DeSoto Center in 1988. He has nearly thirty-five years experience in the funeral profession.
Throughout his career, he has been called upon to handle the services for immediate family members of some high-profile celebrities. Additionally, he is frequently a speaker at various national funeral conferences and is often quoted in industry trade journals. Mr. Taylor has several published articles relating to the funeral profession and has served as an industry expert witness in high-profile trials.
In 1995, he became the youngest person ever elected to the Memphis City Council. Councilman Taylor served as City Council Chairman in 2003 and Vice-Chairman in 2004 and 2007. In 2008, after twelve years of service, he retired from public service to devote all of his time to the funeral homes. However, in 2010 Mr. Taylor was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Shelby County Commission. He served until a special election was held to determine his successor. After choosing not run for election to that post, Commissioner Taylor returned to the private sector, to once again, focus on his funeral homes. After a nine year absence in public life, he was called upon to serve as a Shelby County Election Commissioner. He was appointed to that position in 2019, where he continues to serve his community.
Mr. Taylor has been married to his wife, Kimberly, since 1994. Together they have two grown children, Gage and Molly.
